Under the leadership of Chief Conductor Juanjo Mena, the BBC Philharmonic performs around 20 concerts at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, at many venues in the North of England and at least four BBC Proms annually, as well as producing recordings for BBC Radio 3 and Chandos Records (over 250 CDs to date).
As well as this the Orchestra undertakes international tours and most recently it has visited Japan, China, Italy Germany and Spain. The Orchestra has worked closely with some of the most important composers of our time including Peter Maxwell Davies, Harrison Birtwistle, James MacMillan and HK Gruber and visiting conductors include, Sir Andrew Davis, Gunther Herbig, and Yutaka Sado as well as our family of associated conductors.
The BBC Philharmonic is supported by Salford City Council, enabling the orchestra to build active links in the area through a busy learning and community programme. The orchestra is based in a dedicated state-of-the-art studio at the BBC’s new home in the North – MediaCityUK, Salford Quays.
