Project Description

This USAID-funded project will examine the Women's Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) in five Indonesian provinces. This in-depth assessment of the empowerment, agency, and inclusion of women in the agriculture sector is in line with the goals of the Feed-the-Future program, and will be conducted in provinces central to USAID's agricultural programs. The anticipated start date for this assessment is late January 2013, with an expected timeline of 12 weeks.

Specific Responsibilities

• Test questionnaires and methodology for a statistically sound baseline survey for the WEIA assessment in five provinces in Indonesia as part of a team of five persons.
• Contribute to the design and execution of an efficient methodology for getting an in-depth understanding of the lives of rural women in five different provinces around USAID agricultural programs in Indonesia.
• Gather the data for and contribute to identifying crop-specific gender imbalances and whether there are crops outside of USAID's current focus which could provide opportunities for gender focused agricultural activities.
• Work effectively together with a team of four other persons to conduct the baseline survey and in-depth analysis of the lives of rural women in Indonesia and the agricultural opportunities analysis.
• Contribute to the preparation of periodic progress reports as well as the draft and final reports for the required baseline survey and in-depth analyses and programmatic recommendations.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in agriculture, gender studies, or a related field is required; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience working with gender in Indonesia is required.
• Demonstrated experience with gender empowerment in Indonesia required.
• Experience conducting assessments and evaluations required.
