Network and UNIX Systems Administrator
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Configure, deploy, administer, and troubleshoot all Local Area Network devices to include Cisco Systems switches and routers, network firewalls and remote access systems
- Ensure reliable internet connectivity
- Configure, deploy, administer and troubleshoot Oracle Sun Microsystems servers (Sparc and Intel platform) and storage systems running Solaris versions 10, 11 and earlier
- Provide technical and administrative support ensuring all hardware and software operations run properly within a mixed Solaris, Linux and Windows environment
- Evaluate, recommend and implement system upgrades and technology changes
- Develop and maintain documentation relating to systems architecture design, assets, helpdesk operations and relevant disaster recover needs
- Assist in the administration of Windows Servers and PC user support
- Assist in the management of the central backup and file restoration using Veritas NetBackup for all Microsoft-Server and UNIX clients.
Required Technical Skills:
- Excellent working knowledge of TCP/IP v4 and IP v6 networking fundamentals
- Experience with Cisco Systems IOS versions
- Experience configuring and managing firewalls
- Expertise in UNIX (Solaris) administration and relevant protocols (for example SMTP, HTTP, SSL, DNS, NFS, LDAP, DHCP, SMB and SNMP)
- Experience integrating Solaris and Windows environments. (CIFS, AD, NIS)
- Perl and excellent shell scripting (bash, csh) experience
- Familiarity with current IT security principles
- Knowledge of network wiring technologies
- Knowledge of WiFi architectures and protocols
- Knowledge of VLAN structures, authentication and authorization methods.
Beneficial Technical Skills:
- Experience with Veritas NetBackup software
- Experience with NAS/SAN systems from Oracle or EMC2
- Experience implementing a virtualized infrastructure and working with virtualization tools like VMware, Oracle VM for Sparc and Solaris Zones
- Web Server administration (Apache, Tomcat)
- Experience in developing Web applications using modern programming technologies (Java, XML, PHP and Oracle)
- ITIL methodologies.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer Science, Informatics or a related field, or sufficient relevant experience
- Three years or more Network administration experience primarily in a Cisco environment
- Two years or more Solaris Systems Administration experience
- Fluent English (German language skills would be beneficial)
Appointment Terms:
The successful candidate will be offered a one-year, fixed-term contract with possibility for extension. IIASA salaries are exempt from taxation in Austria but subject to the principle of income aggregation. Appointment includes moving and settlement allowances.
