Department

BBC Scotland’s Factual department is an expanding, invigorating and exciting environment for programme makers, with Arts, Science, History and Documentary at the heart of our output. The range of local and network programming has grown as part of Creative.  At peak production times, 175 people work in the department. We make high profile shows for BBC 1, BBC 2 and BBC 4.

Programmes include: Imagine, The Culture Show, The Review Show, The One Show, Moominland Tales: the life of Tove Jansson, Still Life, Faberge, Rank, Jonathan Meades, Addicted to Pleasure, the Stuarts, Operation Iceberg, Supermarket Secrets, Britain’s Favourite Supermarket Foods, Animal Intelligence, Trust Me I’m A Doctor, The Day the Power Went Off and Clydebuilt.

Role

RESEARCHERS

We are looking for researchers to work across a wide range of factual programmes. You might have specialist knowledge in one particular area, or you may have worked across a variety of genres and formats. We are looking for people capable of creating original ideas in development, who are excellent at sourcing people and, in particular, individuals with a keen eye for spotting stories.
 
 
ARCHIVE RESEARCHERS

We are also looking for experienced archive researchers.   The BBC has a rich and complex archive which is used in many programmes. We are looking for people with an excellent general knowledge and a good visual eye, who enjoy working with library materials and systems.   Candidates should also have a good knowledge of external archive sources. Knowledge of copyright law would be useful. We would also consider new archive researchers who could demonstrate related skills.

Requirements

You must have excellent communication skills and be confident conducting interviews and original research over the telephone. We are looking for well-read candidates with a wide general knowledge including literature, music, art, design, film, theatre, history and science, You should also be a viewer and consumer of television.

You must have television experience, and be confident of sourcing information and contributors from primary sources

We are looking for people who can watch television critically, and develop new ideas for existing or new shows.
