Position Overview:
Operating on a 16 days on, 12 days off roster commuting from Cairns, you will work as part of a multicultural team on this exciting international project. Barrick Porgera is based in the Highlands of Enga Province in Papua New Guinea and offers a unique and challenging work environment. At an elevation in excess of 2100 meters the Porgera Valley has a year round temperate climate with an annual rainfall of approximately 3.6 meters. The 2500 strong workforce is extremely diverse both culturally and in regards to education, skill and experience.
The opportunity exists for you to relocate to Cairns and enjoy a relaxed lifestyle in a modern and dynamic city offering excellent educational facilities up to university level. Alternatively and subject to conditions, the company will subsidise on-travel airfares paid to commute to and from Cairns for each work roster.
SENIOR RESOURCE GEOLOGIST
The Position:
Reporting to the Chief Geologist, you will be responsible to apply and monitor systems as well as do the mineral resource estimation, definition, reconciliation and reporting to ensure integrity and quality of mine-based geological resource models and functions. You must have sufficient relevant experience to be, or able to, register as a Qualified Person (QP) for Resource Reporting. You must be able to demonstrate a strong desire to be part of a team that is committed to safety, improving the knowledge of the mineralization controls, development of its national work force, setting and meeting production targets and have an open mind.
The Person:
You must possess an appropriate degree qualification in Geology with significant proven mine geology experience including complete geostatistical resource modelling and estimation to SOX Reporting standards and Life of Mine Planning knowledge. You will be accountable and responsible for maintaining and improving resource models necessary for mine engineering to develop feasibility studies and optimum mine designs. Experience in senior leadership roles is essential for this role along with having sound skills in and the use of 3D mine geology software and the ability to demonstrate competent computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems.
This challenging role requires you to engage with all people associated with the Barrick Porgera Operations and to understand, learn from and share cultural differences. It also has the responsibility of overseeing the provision of training and coaching to National and Local employees as part of the company’s Training and Localisation Plan. It is essential that you have the capability and desire to transfer skills and knowledge to a national workforce.
