Department

We are looking for a Picture Producer/Broadcast Journalist for the BBC multimedia newsroom to work on the joint News Channel/World News overnight service. The overnight output is carried by World News and the News Channel and it is on BBC1 at 0500 a much-watched hour which helps to build an audience for Breakfast News. The Overnight teams are part of the BBC’s multi-media newsroom and the Global News Division, so knowledge of other platforms will be useful.

Role

Candidates should have considerable experience of working in a newsroom and must demonstrate a good knowledge of both the UK and international agendas.  You will have a keen visual sense, and will be alive to new pictorial material which enhances the output. You will also have technical skills – including an advanced understanding and ability to use ENPS and Jupiter/QCut and other news systems.  You'll need the ability to edit sometimes complex picture sequences for floats and oovs and – working with picture editors – the ability to produce packages. You will need a pro-active approach to the news agenda, particularly live events, and will regularly put forward new story and picture ideas for coverage.

Requirements

You will need a detailed knowledge of the workings of the BBC’s Newsgathering operation and of the international and domestic picture agencies along with an acute understanding of copyright issues and issues relating to UGC material and pictures sourced from social media. You must have the ability to work in a multimedia way, including working as required as a Broadcast Journalist, providing written and visual material for the output. You will be able to write clearly and accurately, and as required turn complex issues into engaging television.

We have a diverse audience and welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds to reflect that. You'll need to demonstrate that you can work creatively and under pressure often with minimum supervision. We are a 24-hour, 7 day a week operation. The job may involve both nIght and day working and may include location production and travel.

Further details about the role please contact Paul John at World News.
