Project Description
This USAID-funded assessment will examine the Women's Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) in five Indonesian provinces. This in-depth assessment of the empowerment, agency, and inclusion of women in the agriculture sector is in line with the goals of the Feed-the-Future program, and will be conducted in provinces central to USAID's agricultural programs. The anticipated start date for this assessment is late January 2013, with an expected timeline of 12weeks.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Develop a statistically sound methodology for conducting the baseline survey for the WEIA assessment.
  • Design an efficient methodology for getting an in-depth understanding of the lives of rural women in five different provinces around USAID agricultural programs in Indonesia.
  • Identify crop-specific gender imbalances and whether there are crops outside of USAID's current focus which could provide opportunities for gender focused agricultural activities.
  • Lead, orient, train and supervise a team of five to conduct the baseline survey and in-depth analysis of the lives of rural women in Indonesia and the agricultural opportunities analysis.
  • Prepare periodic progress reports as well as draft and final reports for the required baseline survey and in-depth analyses and programmatic recommendations.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Master's degree in agriculture, gender studies, or a related field is required; Ph.D. preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of international development experience is required; experience working with gender and/or agriculture is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with population-based gender surveys is required; additional experience conducting USAID agricultural assessments and evaluations is preferred.
  • Experience working in Southeast Asia on gender and/or agricultural issues is required; experience working in Indonesia is preferred.
  • Experience with the Women's Empowerment in Agriculture Index is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Indonesian agricultural development milieu is preferred.
