Ernest Oppenheimer Early Career Research Fellowship 2013
UNIVERSITY of CAMBRIDGE - OPPENHEIMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP
Applications are invited for an Ernest Oppenheimer Early Career Research Fellowship to be held at Cambridge University in Colloid Science as broadly interpreted within the fields of biology, surface chemistry, materials science and nanotechnology. These Fellowships are intended to provide an opportunity for independent research, though the holders usually work in collaboration with an established research group. Applications are encouraged from women and men who will have completed a PhD by 1 October 2013, as well as from those who have spent not more than three years from a PhD viva or defence in post-doctoral research. Tenure is for three years in an appropriate department commencing normally from 1 October 2013. The stipend range is £27,578 to £35,938. A contribution may be made towards travel and removal expenses, and up to £15k p.a. will be made available for research expenses.
The Oppenheimer Fellowship cannot be held concurrently with any other paid position, or position which would normally attract a stipend. In exceptional circumstances the Oppenheimer committee may consider a top-up.
Applications (on paper) should reach the Secretary of the Committee of Management, School of the Physical Sciences, 17 Mill Lane, Cambridge CB2 1RX by 25 January 2013 and should be accompanied by 10 copies of:
(a) CV (2 pages maximum) including academic career, qualifications (with class of degree and position in course as x/y), any relevant teaching experience; list of papers published and in press.
(b) Two statements, describing respectively the applicant's previous and current research (1 page maximum), and the proposed research programme, including its relevance to colloid science (3 pages maximum).

Applications exceeding the specified length (CV, 2 pages; previous and current research, 1 page; proposed research, 3 pages) or in a font size smaller than 11 point will not be accepted.
(d) The names, addresses and e-mail addresses of two persons (only) who would be willing to give a confidential assessment of the applicant's research to the Committee of Management, at least one of whom should be an external referee. Candidates are requested to ask their referees to write direct to the Secretary by the closing date.
