University of the South Pacific PhD Scholarships 2013


Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to undertake full-time or part-time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) only at The University of the South Pacific (USP).
The awards are tenable from early 2013 and maybe held in any member country of USP.

Research Areas

The university will be funding research in areas for which it has supervisors available.

Benefits and Conditions

A Scholarship award in 2013 will comprise the following.
  • Tuition fees (paid directly)
  • Book allowance of up to $750/year
  • General Services fees paid directly
  • Health Services fees paid directly
  • Living allowance of $13143.00 per year to be paid on a monthly basis
  • Dependents Allowance of $10883.00 per year to qualifying awardees
  • Establishment Allowance of $1942.00 (one-off) to qualifying awardees
  • Research grant of up to $5500 only after the research plan and budget have been approved by the appropriate Faculty Research Committee
  • One return airfare when the person receiving the Scholarship award has to travel to a USP campus in another country to take it up.
(Scholarship benefits for part-time candidates will be approximately half of the full-time benefits).

Scholarship Conditions

Awardees who are on full-time studies are not permitted to be in paid employment during the tenure of their awards and will be required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week for the entire year on their research. Awardees who are on part-time studies are permitted to be in paid employment during the tenure of their awards and will be required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week for the entire year on their research.
Full-time scholarship holders will also be expected to contribute to ongoing teaching in their respective faculties for a maximum of eight hours per week only during semester time.

Applicants must be citizens of a USP member country. Your letter of application must be accompanied by an outline of a proposed research topic which demonstrates knowledge of the proposed subject. Applicants may discuss their applications with a potential supervisor. Applicants should also submit a full CV with the names and contact of three referees and academic transcripts.
