Web Editor (Maternity Leave Replacement - 1 Year)

Vacancy 17/2012 Communications Department - to professionally manage IIASA’s new Website, take the lead on developing its content, and work together with technical experts to develop the technical side of the site in order to significantly increase the attraction and retention of Web visitors.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Head of IIASA's Communications Department, the Web Editor will:

• Maintain the content of IIASA’s Web site to ensure the most up-to-date and accurate content is presented
• Source, write and produce new content that engages with Web visitors from new Web sections and pages to podcasts and video. This includes working with IIASA’s Press Officer to use social media to maximize interest in IIASA
• Identify, manage the timely posting and quality of content on the front page of IIASA’s Web site according to IIASA’s Web policy 
• Implement the technical side of diverse web-based communication activity including IIASA’s e-newsletter, IIASA podcasts and videos, and project Web sites
• Develop excellent working relationships with IIASA IT staff who provide the technical support for the Web site and with IIASA COM & research staff who provide the editorial content for the Web site
• Act as a Web expert and advisor to research staff on using the Web to communicate their research most effectively to target audiences
• Monitor and analyze the visits and use of IIASA’s Web site with Google Analytics and use this evaluation to improve the Web site
• Continue the development of existing Web site and support the redesign and implementation of a new IIASA intranet; and maintain the Communications Department section of the internal Web pages
• Carry out ad hoc Web-related projects and other communication duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience: 

• Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience
• At least five years' experience in developing and editing Web sites to a high editorial standard
• Proven knowledge of content management systems, with proficiency at MS Office (2003-10) HTML, CSS, Photoshop and other technology necessary to run a Web site
• Excellent science writing skills and proven ability to present complex science information to a non-specialist audience
• Knowledge of video and audio editing software, and social media are an advantage
• Very good level of English
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team and to maintain professional and productive relationships with scientists and staff from diverse nationalities.

Appointment Terms:

The successful candidate will be offered a one-year, fixed-term contract with possibility for extension, and should be available to take up the position as soon as possible.

The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. It is exempt from taxation in Austria but subject to the principle of income aggregation. The appointment includes moving and settlement allowances.

Preference will be given to applicants who are nationals of IIASA member countries.
