BBC Cymru Wales is a drama production centre for excellence and is well known for series such as Doctor Who, Casualty, Pobol y Cwm and Wizards Vs. Aliens. You will be joining the Drama Department an exciting time in BBC Wales' new purpose-built drama production centre at Roath Lock, Cardiff Bay

Role

You will provide support to a highly skilled HD camera team, answerable to DOP, Lead Operator or Focus Puller on a demanding drama including day/night shooting & FX work. Your time will be split as per the requirements of the Business, developing your skills as trainee focus puller and as a camera assistant.

As a Focus Puller you will be responsible for focusing and re focusing the camera lens as actors move within the frame of each shot, using instinct and experience to judge 
distances and focus, moving quickly and accurately when required within a studio environment and also on location i.e. forests, quarry’s, beaches.You will also be responsible for transporting kit often, sometimes on location in unforgiving surroundings. Requirements often change last minute and you will need to be able to react to those requests quickly.

Requirements

You will be highly motivated and willing to work alongside a highly skilled and dedicated team of camera technicians. You will be reliable, punctual, polite and operate efficiently under potentially challenging conditions. You will be expected to work long unsociable hours, including weekends and at night, inside and outside, in all weather conditions, on location and in studio as required by the filming schedule. You will have excellent communication skills, be able to liaise effectively and establish good working relations with all contacts both outside and inside the BBC and have knowledge of relevant Health & Safety guidelines and Legislation.
You will have a thorough knowledge of the following equipment:- The Panasonic AJ-HPX 3100 camera, Fujinon HA 22x7.3 and HA 14x14.5 lenses. Familiarity with the Arri Wireless Lens Control System would be an advantage and a working knowledge of green and blue screen effects in liaison with the special effects team.
