Nurse Advisor Consultant
Approx. 3 month consulting opportunity with travel to Haiti
There are 24 nursing schools in Haiti (5 public and 19 private) which currently administer a variety of nursing education programs. The Haitian Ministry of Health and Population (MSPP) is interested in standardizing and strengthening pre-service nursing programs, and has prioritized the introduction of a 4-year Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. I-TECH has been tasked with developing a competency-based national BSN curriculum and harmonizing the pre-service nursing programs across the five government-sector schools. I-TECH recently collaborated with the MSPP in conducting a needs assessment of nursing schools to inform the curriculum revision process.I-TECH is seeking a Consultant to provide technical assistance to this project, working closely with I-TECH Haiti staff (based in Port-au-Prince) on the following activities:
- Provide technical assistance to a Writer’s Workshop (to write syllabi for the 4-year course), to take place in Haiti during the week of January 21, 2013.
- Provide necessary technical assistance to implement the project workplan [revision of the nursing scope of work (competencies), curriculum design and development, implementation plan for pilot (including faculty training and evaluation)]. Serve as content expert in curriculum development; identify necessary resources to support the curriculum upgrade.
- Make recommendations for curricular and/or teaching improvements so that the revised curriculum meets U.S. or international BSN standards.
- Participate (in person or via distance) in stakeholder meetings.
Timeframe: Immediately through March 31, 2013, for a minimum of 25% effort; possibility of extension beyond March 31.
Required skills:
- PhD in nursing, or masters in nursing plus experience in curriculum development and/or experience serving as faculty at a nursing school, or equivalent mix of education and experience
- Experience in developing or managing pre-service (undergraduate) nursing training programs
- Communication skills in French (reading, writing, speaking)
- Ability to travel to Haiti (approximately 2 trips of 1-2 weeks each)
- Preference given to applicants with experience working with nursing programs in developing countries
