BBC East is the largest English Region covering a wide range of diverse communities with a news service that has rapidly expanded and developed in recent years.  BBC Look East, the regional news and current affairs programme, is our flagship nightly news programme with associated bulletins throughout the week days and week-ends. It has one of the biggest audiences of any regional programme in the country and transmits across Cambridge, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, using the very latest digitally based broadcast technology.
 
 

Role

3 month fixed term contract / attachment
 
Based in Cambridge you will have responsibility for VT and programme timings for the Cambridge sub-opt, preparing scripts and schedules, logging programme details, use ENPS and our computer broadcast systems. The role will also involve you offering  support for all aspects of programme production; including research; assistance with outside broadcasts; administrative duties including copyright; archiving and payments. In addition you’ll be the first point of contact for all enquires to the programme. You may also work on other areas of the output as required.
 
 

Requirements

As an experienced television Broadcast Assistant, you’ll be used to working in the gallery and operating the autocue and timings. You must have a well developed passion/interest in news and current affairs; strong technical skills, planning and organising skills as well as communication skills. In addition, you’ll have proven experience in research; administration and customer care and be flexible in your approach to work. You must have the ability to work within a team as well as on your own initiative. An awareness of our audiences and one other community would be an advantage.
 
Please note that this role is offered on a part time basis working 14 hours per week. This is broken down as 2 hours Mon & Weds-Fri and Tues 5-11 but you will need to be flexible as some additional week day work may be required.
