Spain INTERNSHIP EVALUATION AREA

Founded in 2003, DARA (www.daraint.org) is an independent organization committed to improving the quality and effectiveness of aid. DARA is one of the few independent non profit organisations evaluating aid and disaster risk reduction efforts around the world. DARA’s goal is to carry out utilisation focused evaluations that guide aid policies and interventions. Our evaluations are designed to improve results and increase impact as well to promote learning and accountability by offering practical guidance. DARA is looking to recruit a qualified intern to support our evaluations and technical assistance work.

Main responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Evaluation Head, the intern’s main responsibility is to provide assistance to the Evaluation Area at two levels 1) overall Evaluation process and 2) development of the Evaluation area. The person recruited will work between 20 and 30 hours per week (on the basis of availability), and she/ he will become an active member of the Evaluation Area. Tasks: 1) Evaluation/ Technical assistance process: - Support the Evaluation team in obtaining and organising administrative documents and logistical arrangements. - Support the team in backstopping activities, mainly when part of the evaluation area is on mission. - Study the Terms of Reference of each evaluation opportunity and assist the Evaluation Team in searching for appropriate consultant’s profiles. - Assist the evaluation team in proposal writing (i.e. Expressions of Interest, technical proposals, etc.). - Assist the evaluation team in reporting phases, namely, desk review, editing and formatting. - Develop tools for data analysis (qualitative) using excel-sheets, specific software packages (e.g. Dt.Search or ATLAS.ti) 2) Development of Evaluation Area: - Update the expert’s database. - Actualise in-house CVs in homogenised format and according to specific requirements. Ensure in-house bios are updated and filed. - Assist in developing the contents of the evaluation area in DARA’s website and ensure these are updated. - Develop other tasks as required by the Evaluation Team on the basis of the annual action plan. - Participate in evaluation meetings, write the minutes, and research on evaluation methodological trends

Requirements: - Degree in International Relations or a relevant field (e.g., Development Cooperation, Humanitarian Assistance, International Law, International Economics, etc.) or Evaluation Studies. - Outstanding communications and writing skills in English (native speaker preferred), good command of Spanish is a plus. - Demonstrated experience in carrying out advocacy, research activities, preparing reports, studies, documents, etc. - A strong interest and prior experience in humanitarian aid and development cooperation is a plus. - Ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Advanced use of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
