Social Worker Roger’s House

Roger’s House is an eight-bed, pediatric palliative care hospice in Ottawa committed to easing the distress of children who are living with a progressive life-limiting illness as well as providing support to their families. We are currently looking for a dynamic, innovative and flexible PERMANENT PART TIME .4 FTE SOCIAL WORKER.
POSITION SUMMARY:
In keeping with the mission of Roger’s House and the standards of pediatric palliative care, the Social Worker will work as part of the Roger’s House team with another part time social worker, sharing responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating social work services.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provides psychosocial assessments as required
• Provides counseling and support to patients and their families
• Advocates on behalf of families with respect to services and supports
• Participates in clinical research activities
• Facilitates support groups for children/youth and families
• Coordinates bereavement care
• Facilitates bereavement groups
• Coordinates and facilitates CHEO bereavement committee
• Carries other responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Police Record Check (PRC) (Essential)
M.S.W. graduate from an accredited university program in social work (Essential)
Member of the Ontario College of Social Workers (Essential)
Demonstrates expertise & knowledge about the impact of illness on
children, youth & families (Essential)
Demonstrates expertise & knowledge about progressive
life-limiting illnesses (Essential)
Fluency in both English and French (Essential)
Strong interpersonal and team work skills (Essential)
Well-developed group therapy skills (Essential)
Well-developed grief and bereavement counseling skills (Essential)
Flexibility around working hours (Essential)
Functions well in an interdisciplinary team (Essential)
Previous experience working in a pediatric health care setting (Preferred)
Knowledge of community resources (Preferred)
Comfort level and skill in preparing and delivering presentations (Preferred)
