Editorial Director EMEA - Thought Leadership

The Economist Group’s thought leadership (TL) division produces high quality editorial content for a wide range of global corporate clients, foundations and governments. The team sells content programs addressing business and geopolitical trends to senior marketing and communications executives in a diverse range of industries and sectors.
Currently we are seeking an Editorial Director Thought Leadership to lead and grow the Thought Leadership business in EMEA, by cultivating the Economist Group’s standards of editorial quality, creativity and independence and by maintaining strong client services practices. The Editorial Director will oversee the production of compelling thought leadership and research-based B2B content marketing programmes focused on a broad set of sectors, including technology, finance, professional services, healthcare, energy among others.
In the role you would be expected to:
- Manage a team of editors responsible for the delivery of a large number of Thought Leadership client projects
- Develop and oversee large client relationships from an editorial perspective, delivering high quality content and an excellent client service
- Partner with sales on business development through the generation of compelling new products, research programmes and proposals as well as maintaining strong relationships with the key clients
- Exercise judgment on editorial and commercial issues, with principles of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) editorial guidelines
- Ensuring editorial output meets the quality standards and branding rules set by the EIU
- Lead the development of TL growth strategy and support the Global Editorial Director in larger strategic developments for the global TL team
- Support audience development and marketing capabilities of the team
- Promote the Economist Group’s content business in the market by participating in conferences, providing speaking services to the clients
- Driving creativity and provocative thinking in developing and implementing TL content and commercial strategy
- Lead development of program development and innovative client solutions
- Driving project earnings against our growth targets, managing costs to ensure our margins our maintained
To succeed in the role you must have:
- Excellent writing, editing, presentation and author-management skills
- Intimate knowledge of the EIU editorial guidelines
- Outstanding client presence and experience dealing with senior executives
- Effective stakeholder management (both internal and external)
- Strong project management and team management track record
- Experience in managing strong and credible brand voice and integrity
- Good understanding of international business and management issues. Specialist knowledge of finance, technology and energy is an advantage
