Through research, effective advocacy, and programs directly supporting frontline activists, Freedom House supports the spread of freedom and democracy throughout the world. Freedom House has been a leader in identifying threats to freedom through its highly regarded analytic reports, including Freedom in the World. Its diverse programs have supported the work of civic activists and human rights defenders in over 40 countries. Advocacy and outreach are aimed at encouraging democratic governments, including the United States, to adopt and implement policies that effectively advance human rights and democracy at home and abroad. Freedom House's annual budget is $18 million, with 13 field offices, and two U.S. offices.

Freedom House invites applications for the position of Executive Director of the Africa Institute for Governing with Integrity. This is a new, independent institute created with Freedom House support to empower a new generation of professionals in government and civil society across Africa to lead with integrity and catalyze reforms that promote citizen participation and government accountability.

The Executive Director, under the supervision of the Institute's independent Board of Directors, will lead the Institute's programs and development. S/he will work with the Board of Directors to set strategy and priorities; design and implement work plans to address priorities and develop the Institute; ensure high quality in the Institute's programs; serve as the Institute's spokesperson; conduct outreach to diverse stakeholders; build and maintain a wide range of partnerships; design and implement fund-raising strategy and secure adequate resources for the Institute's programs; appoint and manage staff; oversee a strong system of financial management and ensure prudent and honest use of Institute resources; and maintain high standards of integrity in all of the Institute's programs, operations, and financial transactions.

Candidates must be recognized civil society leaders in Africa with impeccable integrity, strategic vision, and a deep commitment to democratic governance. They must have a successful track record in designing and directing programs to promote civic participation and government accountability, managing complex organizations and highly skilled staff, ensuring sound financial management and compliance with donor requirements, serving as a persuasive spokesperson for their organization, conducting vigorous outreach to diverse stakeholders, building a range of strong partnerships, and raising funds. Fluency in French is strongly preferred.
