POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Title: Research Associate, Military Fellows
Salary: Based on education and experience
Start Date: Mid-July 2011

Founded in 1921, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is a leading nonprofit membership organization, research center, and publisher, with headquarters in New York, an office in Washington, DC, and programs nationwide. It is dedicated to increasing America's understanding of the world and contributing ideas to U.S. foreign policy. CFR's 4,000+ members are leaders in international affairs and foreign policy. CFR also publishes Foreign Affairs, the preeminent journal on global issues, and provides up-to-date information about the world and U.S. foreign policy on its award-winning website, CFR.org.

The David Rockefeller Studies Program is one of the country's largest foreign policy think tanks, with a widely respected and influential research staff. The Studies Program's aim is to advance the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs through its writing, publications, public outreach, and discussions.

CFR.org is CFR's award-winning website and a leading source of foreign policy analysis. It publishes a mix of resources, including interactive Crisis Guides, Daily News Briefs, Backgrounders, and interviews with foreign policy leaders. CFR.org collaborates closely with CFR's think tank on its content and features insights from CFR fellows in a number of ways, including First Takes, Expert Briefs, and video interviews.

Each year, the Army and Air Force Chiefs of Staff, Chief of Naval Operations, and the Commandants of the Marine Corps and the Coast Guard nominate an outstanding senior officer from their respective services as a candidate for a Military Fellowship. The program enables the selected officers to broaden their understanding of foreign relations by spending a year in residence at the Council's headquarters in New York. Fellows participate in Council programs, meet with Council members and staff, and engage in studies in conjunction with the Council's Studies Program. They also assist in arranging several politico-military trips abroad for Council members during the year. As part of the Studies Program, the Research Associate will support the activities of the Director of the Military Fellows Program and the Military Fellows.
