POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Title: Research Associate, Center for Preventive Action/International Institutions and Global Governance

Salary: Mid-thirties, based on education and experience

The Studies Program's aim is to advance the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs through its writing, publications, public outreach, and discussions.

The Research Associate will report to the Fellow for Conflict Prevention in the Center for Preventive Action and the Director of the Program on International Institutions and Global Governance Program focusing on conflict prevention, the United Nations, and global governance issues.

Qualified candidates will have related experience that required excellent judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize. The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing logistical support to the Fellows, handling correspondence, scheduling, and responding to requests for information
  • Researching specific topics for articles, book chapters, and other publications, as requested
  • Tracking news and data sources
  • Assisting with the proofreading and editing of articles, book chapters, and other written material
  • Coordinating events, including preparing invitations, travel arrangements, corresponding with speakers and presiders, helping to prepare background papers and materials for distribution, and providing other logistical support
  • Managing budgets, including preparing budgets and tracking monthly statements, monitoring grant information and writing reports and requests, and preparing vouchers for reimbursement

Qualification:
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in International Relations or Political Science with high academic credentials
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the United Nations, conflict prevention or post-conflict peacebuilding, international organizations, and U.S. national security policy is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and provide timely responses to requests
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Strong research skills
  • Strong organizational and program planning skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Word and the Internet
  • One or more years related administrative experience
