General Manager - Legal Services: Africa

Outputs:

  • Manage the legal affairs for the sub-Sahara Africa region.
  • Ensure compliance with the Naspers group’s legal compliance policies.
  • Manage any litigation and disputes.
  • Liaise with and manage the external lawyers used by the various MAL businesses in the region.
  • Advise the CEO on legal issues.
  • Provide legal advice on day-to-day issues.
  • Provide input to management on the competition sector regulations strategy.
  • Manage any enquiry that flows from an investigation or complaint generated by the relevant Competition Authorities.
  • Negotiate, draft and vet contracts.
  • Support the M&A activities in SSA.
  • Provide input on company strategy.

Requirements:

  • B Com / BA and LLB or similar relevant degrees
  • Admitted attorney
  • 8 years post-admission experience at top tier law firm in commercial law or in the in-house legal department of a large corporate, where the candidate operated at the level sought for this position
  • Experience / knowledge in dealing with Competition Law / Authorities
  • Experienced in drafting various media-related agreements and general commercial agreements
  • Experienced in commercial law / M & A issues generally
