Public Policy Director

The World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) is a non-profit organization founded in 2000 for the purpose of promoting social and economic development as well as environmental stewardship in cocoa-growing communities. The foundation is a membership-based organization with approximately 90 member companies involved in the cocoa and chocolate industries around the world, representing over 80% of the global market. The foundation is based in Washington, DC and supports programs that benefit farmers in cocoa-growing regions of Africa, Southeast Asia and the Americas. Specific program activities include training for farmers and communities, as well as applied scientific research.

WCF is seeking a Public Policy Director to lead the organization’s public policy outreach in areas such as child and adult labor prevention, environmental issues, and others. The position will be based at the Washington, DC office. Compensation is commensurate with experience.


Qualifications


  • At least five years work experience
  • Degree in public policy and/or international development
  • Experience working for non-profits involved in international development and social issues
  • Understanding or background in the private sector desirable
  • Background on child labor prevention and understanding of International Labor Organization standards
  • Experience and understanding of US, EU and developing country public institutions and agencies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in leading multi-stakeholder groups which include public and private sectors
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others as well as independently
  • Ability and interest to travel to domestically and internationally
  • Good diplomatic skills
  • Proficiency in French desirable

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Lead private sector committee on addressing social issues in the cocoa sector
  • Work with WCF staff to implement a plan for measuring program success on social interventions
  • Establish positive and constructive engagement with US, EU and Africa public and private sector partners
  • Participate in a public-private sector platforms and oversee a matching grants program
  • Oversee a public-private sector program on child labor prevention in West Africa
  • Organize conferences and events, as needed
  • Provide guidance and support to staff in Washington and West Africa
