Research Officer Australian Embassy and Mission to the EU

The Australian Embassy & Mission to the EU in Brussels has a vacancy for a Research Officer. This position is full-time (37H30 per week) for twelve months, commencing as soon as practicable.

Duties include:

  • Monitoring and research of European Parliament developments and legislative proposals;
  • Drafting of reports on European Parliament issues with regards to Australian policies and interests, including in areas such as trade, energy, economic policy and EU Common Foreign and Security Policy;
  • Providing support for public diplomacy events and official visits;
  • Other duties as required.

Selection Criteria:

A. Knowledge of EU institutions, in particular the European Parliament, EU legislative processes and the political environment, and understanding of Australian interests.
B. Demonstrated well-developed communication skills, with strong English-language drafting ability, and competence with IT systems including Microsoft Access.
C. Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks, exercise sound judgement and take a pro-active approach to issues.
D. Demonstrated ability to be flexible, to focus on the achievement of outputs, and awareness of client service sensitivity.

The terms of engagement and salary for this position will be negotiated with the successful applicant based on their qualifications and experience.
