Senior Labour Relations Officer
Salary: R185 958 – R219 048 per annum plus benefits (Level 8)

Requirements: • Appropriate Bachelor’s degree, which includes Labour Law and/or Labour Relations or equivalent qualification, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the relevant field OR a Senior Certificate with 7 years’ relevant experience • Experience in handling grievances, disciplinary hearings and dispute resolution • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel.

Competencies: • Knowledge of relevant legislation, such as PSA, COIDA, PFMA, LRA, BCEA, etc • Knowledge and understanding of PHSDSBC, PSCBC and CCMA procedures • Knowledge of the Public Service Regulatory Framework, especially relating to HRM and Labour Relations • Competency to provide advice on labour-related matters • Thorough understanding of negotiation, mediation and arbitration skills • Ability to work under pressure • Proficiency in English (verbal and written) as well as computer literacy in MS Office software (Word and Outlook) • Good interpersonal, problem-solving, conflict resolution, presentation and facilitation skills • Good understanding of legal interpretations • Knowledge and understanding of Labour Court procedures • Good planning, organising and report-writing skills • Knowledge of procedures in undertaking research and gathering information.

Duties: • Promote sound labour relations in the Department through ensuring compliance with labour legislation • Monitor fair labour practices and the implementation of Departmental processes, procedures and systems in terms of labour law and Public Service prescripts • Represent the Department during bi- and multi-lateral meetings with Trade Unions • Act as an Employee Representative and Chairperson in disciplinary hearings as well as act as an Investigation Officer in formal grievance cases • Keep and maintain work registers on grievances, disputes, misconduct and labour unrest • Capture disciplinary matters and grievances on information management systems.
