SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for accounting tasks associated with Counterpart’s grant funded and other programs. The Field Accountant is responsible for applying accounting procedures to program structures, cycles, and needs. The position involves processing and auditing overseas expense reports and records; preparing monthly invoice to funding agencies; reconciling invoices with GL; and preparing Pipeline and other finance reports.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Sr. Manager, Project accounting the Staff accountant will be responsible for: • Reviewing monthly field finance reports. • Reconciling balance sheet accounts at the end of each month: Advance Accounts, Bank/Cash accounts, Inventory Account, fixed asset, and accruals. • Preparing journal entries and record field project financial data in the accounting system. • Comparing actual expenses to budgeted expenses and provide Program Manager actual-to-budget variance analysis. • Detailing and reviewing/audit of Payment Vouchers and Transactions supporting documentation. • Reviewing and recording monthly entries related to inventory and distribution. • Tracking inventory discrepancies in cooperation with field Warehouse Assistant. • Assisting the Program Manager in preparation of Monthly and Quarterly Reporting. • Reviewing documentation of any loss, damage or disposable commodities. • Maintaining an organized filing system. • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required • Minimum 3 years General Ledger accounting experience is required • Contract and grants experience - related to cost project accounting; • Excel spreadsheet skills is required; • Knowledge of USAID and USDA Grant Reporting is preferred • Experience with QuickBooks and/or MS Navision experience is preferred; • International non-profit organization experience is preferred; • Must be well organized, detail oriented and able to multi task • Able to work independently and as a member of a team • Russian, French, or Spanish language skills a plus.
