Economic Adviser International Regulation and Taxation Policy

Want to influence the development of Global Regulation and Taxation Policy?
To accelerate our pioneering and innovative work concerning financing for development and in particular current international regulatory and taxation policy issues, we have an outstanding opportunity for an individual with at least seven years’ experience in analysis and policy formulation in international regulation, taxation and financing for development. You will also have an in-depth understanding of international institutions, standard-setters and international regulatory bodies, and extensive experience of working in or on developing countries.
In this role, you will play a key part in developing and supporting advocacy at international fora; in achieving 5.2.1 to 5.2.4 and A1.3 of our strategic plan (download at http://thecommonwealth.org/our-work); and in identifying opportunities and constraints to building consensus on international regulation and taxation. Also, you will play a key role in preparing for the meetings of Commonwealth Central Bank Governors and Finance Ministers; as well as supporting our G20 work programme and engagement.
The immediate focus is on global financial stability; AML/CTF regulation and its impact on remittances; international financial centres, specifically automatic exchange of information; illicit financial flows and Base Erosion Profit shifting. Your remit includes policy research and evidence-based analysis; sharing knowledge and experience; building consensus; monitoring, evaluating and writing briefs and reports; keeping up-to-date information on programme implementations and results; liaising with colleagues, member-country officials, international organisations, IFIs and the like as well as building new relationships.
To succeed, you will need strong analytical and writing skills; the ability to think laterally and innovatively; the skill to apply knowledge to policy problems and to developing and implementing practical solutions; the credibility and confidence to build networks and knowledge rapidly in unfamiliar areas; and impressive organisational, interpersonal and communication skills. Your post-graduate degree should be in economics or finance with sound quantitative skills. Alternatively, your post-graduate degree may have involved a high level of economic / finance components.
