Role Purpose:To play a key role in mainstreaming youth empowerment and development into IDB Group’s development work. To contribute significantly to policy dialogue with Member Countries to understand and address youth issues, concerns and aspirations. To formulate and implement youth empowerment and development programs and projects in coordination with IDB departments and entities. To establish strategic partnerships in the field of youth development
Key Activities:
  • a leading role in the preparation and implementation of the IDBG youth development strategy and operational plans.
  • Assess continuously the effectiveness and relevance of the youth development strategy, operational plans and activities and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop annual work programs and budget related to youth development.Contribute significantly to discussions with MCs government officials at all levels and participate in the preparation of Member Country Partnership Strategy (MCPS) to effectively mainstream youth concerns into MC strategies, policies and programs.
  • Provide advisory and technical input on youth development issues and recommend   innovative solutions to improve on the strategic roadmap and other institutional programs related to youth development within IDBG.
  • Advise and guide the Bank on the integration of youth development activities within the planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and reporting of IDBG interventions, in coordination with IDBG departments and entities.
  • Coordinate with IDBG entities and departments on youth development related initiatives and act as focal point for reporting on their achievements. Support the mandate of the IDBG Youth Advisory Panel, by organizing the Panel meetings and following up on the implementation of its recommendations, in coordination with IDBG departments and entities concerned.
  • Supervise and guide the organizing team of the annual Youth Development Seminar.
  • Act as convener for the IDBG Youth Development Committee, propose agenda, coordinate the preparation of the material and follow up on its decisions with IDBG departments and entities concerned.
  • Conceptualize and implement programs related to youth development in coordination with concerned IDBG departments and entities.
  • Identify and develop standalone operations to enhance the capacity of youth development structures and organizations in IDB MCs.
  • Review and provide advice on funding requests for youth development-related operations received from local NGO’s and national youth organizations within MCs.
  • Lead the implementation of IDB Prizes for Youth.
  • Establish strategic partnerships in the field of youth development with the OIC, technical experts, government institutions, bi-lateral and multi-lateral donors, private sector, civil society and other partner organizations.
  • Represent the Bank in different youth development meetings, discussions and working groups with partner institutions.
  • Mobilize resources for youth empowerment and development programs.
  • Advocate, raise awareness and call for effective commitment and actions on the part of all stakeholders to promote youth engagement and empowerment for sustainable human development.
  • Represent the Bank in youth development conferences and seminars.
  • Organize workshops, training and other capacity development support for IDB staff on youth development concepts and tools and how to integrate youth development initiatives within IDBG’s development work.
  • Research and recommend innovative solutions and improvements to youth empowerment and development approaches and policies in order to enhance development effectiveness and sustainability.
  • Promote learning exchanges with other institutions and contribute to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
  • Provide avenues for IDBG Staff to share experiences in mainstreaming youth development into IDBG’s development agenda,
  • Contribute to IDB knowledge repository by documenting best practices and lessons learned in youth development field. 
  • Undertake benchmarking and comparative assessments and harmonize practices with other MDBs.
  • Develop reports on youth-related challenges, opportunities and trends.
  • Coordinate the preparation of IDBG report on activities and initiatives related to youth development.
  • Prepare concept notes, technical papers, briefs and any other youth development -related documentation, as and when requested.
  • Respond to ad hoc information requests from internal and external parties.
  • Assist in the preparation of the department’s reports.
