Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) www.icrc.org responds to worldwide humanitarian needs through its global network of delegations. The ICRC is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.
The Supporter Development team (PRIV SUP) is responsible for recruiting and developing support for
ICRC's work from individual members of the public. We do this using a wide range of media including direct mail, print, press ads, outdoor advertising, telemarketing, email and digital.
The post holder will join the Supporter Development team to give support across all their fundraising channels. Their primary task is to support the direct marketing programme in order to allow the team to increase their fundraising capacity. This will be achieved by assisting in the coordination of direct marketing campaigns from the concept phase through to delivery by working closely with internal stakeholders, designers, agencies, translators and printers.
Direct marketing plays a major role in the ICRC's fundraising programme for the future; this position is critical to supporting and shaping the individual giving programme.

Main responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Supporter Development team (PRIV SUP) in coordinating various fundraising channels including direct mail, print ads, telemarketing and magazines
  • Managing the product design and approval process for new direct marketing campaigns
  • Content management by liaising with our in-house translation department and external agencies to ensure our fundraising communications are the right tone, style and language for our audience
  • Checking copy on fundraising materials and proofreading for style, grammar, spelling etc.
  • Manage data projects
  • Support fundraising partnerships with National Societies
  • Provide administrative support to the team (Presentations, invoices, contact with suppliers, coordination of meetings, etc.

Qualifications and experience:

  • A university degree or an equivalent combination of education in marketing/communications/journalism or international affairs/social sciences
  • Experience in fundraising and/or marketing/communications/journalism
  • Editorial and editing skills an asset
  • Project management experience an asset

Skills and background

  • Native Swiss German speaker mandatory with good active knowledge of English. French and Italian knowledge an asset.
  • Strong office administration and IT skills; confident user of Microsoft Office
  • Proactive and enthusiastic, fast learner and "can-do" attitude
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills and ability to effectively prioritise and manage workload
  • Passion for humanitarian work and strong commitment to the mission of the ICRC
