Director, Programme for African Leadership

Salary: From £56,775 to £72,898 per annum inclusive

The post is supported by a donation from the Firoz and Najma Lalji Foundation and is funded for a period of five years in the first instance.

The Department of International Development is seeking an outstanding individual to take up this key post from 1 September 2011.

The aim of the Programme for African Leadership is to bring together emerging African leaders for leadership education at the LSE, developed by the School and its partner universities around the world and to form an alumni network to exchange best practice at LSE Africa Forum that will have a direct impact on the lives of African communities.

You will lead the Programme and act as an ambassador for the associated foundation. You will be responsible for the formation of an Advisory Board, with members from Africa, US and Europe and other parts of the world and will also be responsible for the Annual Forum for African leaders to be co-hosted by an African partner and organised by the Firoz and Najma Lalji Foundation in conjunction with the London-based programme.

Candidates with an academic and/or senior international managerial background and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are encouraged to apply. You will have worked at a high level in an academic environment and/or an international organisation and have an extensive and established high profile network of contacts or the ability to network at this level with international audiences. The post will involve extensive international travel.
