For a scientific research programme in rural malawi

A Programme Manager is sought to play an important role in the running of a major medical research programme in rural Africa. Located in Karonga District, northern Malawi, the Karonga Prevention Study currently carries out research on HIV, tuberculosis, respiratory infections and demography, with support from the Wellcome Trust. The Programme Manager's role will be to facilitate and support the scientific programme. The post involves broad administrative and managerial responsibilities. The post holder will head an administrative team with responsibility for personnel, budget, technical (vehicles, buildings, utilities) and logistic (supplies, field arrangement) activities. This is an unusual opportunity to participate in a dynamic research organisation in Africa.

The programme has been running since 1979, and currently employs more than 100 staff. It is based on a 15-acre campus near Chilumba, in Karonga District, a rural area of northern Malawi. For further information, see: http://www.lshtm.ac.uk/eph/ide/research/kps/

The appointment will be until 31 May 2012 initially, with possibility of extension. Salary will be in the range £32,025 - £36,863 per annum. A displacement allowance will be applicable.
