Haiti Coordinator
Visions in Action (VIA) is an international NGO based in Washington D.C. which works in relief and development in Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Liberia and Mexico. VIA has organized over 700 volunteers in the areas of education, human rights, communications, public health, HIV/AIDS, micro-enterprise, social work and community development. VIA has worked in Africa continuously since 1990.
Visions in Action is in the process of registering as a non-profit organization in Haiti. We are actively seeking development opportunities in Haiti. It will be the responsibility of the VIA Haiti Consultant to further these initiatives.
Responsibilities: • Attend weekly emergency relief meetings sponsored by UN OCHA and other agencies as directed by VIA US office - a written report must be submitted summarizing each meeting. • With direction of VIA U.S staff, meet with persons of interest and other stakeholders in Haiti. • Liaise with Haitian government entities to ensure that all VIA registration is complete. • Maintain already-established relationships within local NGO community. • Assist in the transition process and training of any new VIA hires.
Qualifications: • At least one year of experience in health administration, public health, or health services management. • Knowledge of public health information, education, and communications methodology in a development context. Familiarity with UN Sphere standards a plus. • Experience supervising and/or training others. • University degree. • Fluent in English and French; excellent communication skills required. • Willingness to work in a difficult and insecure environment. • Construction skills and experience are preferred.
Duration: This consultancy is on a part-time basis and will consist of a 5 hours per week starting immediately. The consultancy will last 6 months.
Compensation: Unpaid. Possibility of full-time position if grant is secured.
