POSITION; OPTHALMOLOGIST

Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) is a locally registered NGO first established in 1994. It is the largest indigenous provider of disability and rehabilitation services in the country. CCBRT aims to empower people with disabilities and their families, improve their quality of life, and ensure access to medical and rehabilitative treatment. Committed to preventing disabilities wherever possible, CCBRT is also engaged in extensive maternal and newborn healthcare (MNHC) activities and is currently constructing a Maternity and Newborn Hospital which will serve as a referral centre for high risk and emergency deliveries in the region of Dar es Salaam and the Eastern Zone of Tanzania.
Duties to Include:
• Participate in the ophthalmology on-call rota, providing cross-over wherever necessary.
• Diagnose and treat diseases and injuries of eyes, examine patients for symptoms indicative of organic or congenital ocular disorders and determine nature and extent of injury or disorder.
• Perform various tests to determine vision loss.
• Prescribe and administer medications and perform surgeries if indicated.
• Direct remedial activities to aid in regaining vision, or to utilize sight remaining by writing prescriptions for corrective glasses and instructing a patient in eye exercise.
• Develop and implement plans and procedures for ophthalmic services.
• Take part with colleagues within the eye department in the management both of acute, non-elective and elective patients. This involves both inpatient management and outpatient follow up as appropriate.
• Provide ophthalmic consultation to other medical professionals whenever needed.
• Provision of a ‘wrap around’ assessment and treatment service for patients referred by junior doctors and working in conjunction with other members of the multidisciplinary team, provide the appropriate treatment in line with clinical criteria.
• To participate in medical audit, consultant appraisal and in continuing medical education.
• Assisting on planning, implementation and management of the ophthalmology services.
Qualifications:
• Master Degree in Medicine with specialization in Ophthalmology from a recognized institution (E)
• At least 3- 5 years work experience as ophthalmologist in a recognized institution (E)
• Registered by medical Council of Tanganyika (E)
Work Experience / Skills:
• Effective counseling skills and Strong teaching skills (E)
• Strong planning skills and a methodological approach to problem solving (E)

• Refraction for all Inpatients and Outpatients, performing both objective and subjective refraction for all patients.
• Evaluating refractive error and documenting in respective files correctly.
• Performing additional tests and examinations required.
• Assisting colleague optometrist in their daily routine work
• Adhering to the protocols and guidelines in place linked to patient examination as per professional norms and confined to government optometry.
Qualifications:
• Degree in Optometry (E)
Work Experience / Skills:
• 5-6 years’ experience in the same field. (E)
• Additional knowledge in computer is preferable (P)
• Work under pressure, Flexible, creative (E)
• Kind and polite in handling sick patients, (E)

POSITION; PHARMACIST

• Responsible for storage and distribution of medicines and medical devices within the hospital.
• Responsible for tasks where accuracy is highly important such as dispensing and updating patient records.
• Responsible for the right quality and strength of medicines and consumables in collaboration with doctors and procurement department.
• Must be able to follow directions well and communicate effectively with both patients and other medical professionals. .
• Responsible for ordering items for use within a hospital and delivering pharmaceuticals and other goods to sites within a pharmacy department.
• Responsible for compounding/local production of drugs according to doctor’s prescription.
• Responsible for monthly spot check of expired drugs and disposal of Hospital expired drugs according to TFDA regulations in collaboration with Hospital Pharmacist.
Qualifications:
• 4 years degree in Pharmacy with one year internship (E)
• Registered with PCT as a Pharmacist (E)
Work Experience / Skills:
• Registered with PCT as a pharmacist (E)
• Work for at least two years at Hospital pharmacy (E)
• Good interpersonal skills (E )
