SNV is seeking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene experts for an anticipated USAID-funded Nutrition and WASH project in Rwanda. The goal of the project will be to improve childhood nutrition and health in key vulnerable areas by focusing on community sanitation and improved feeding practices.
The WASH Experts will be primarily responsible for ensuring that strategies to increase the use of improved sanitation facilities and improve hygiene behaviors related to nutrition are technically sound, up-to-date, of proven efficiency, and able to be implemented in local settings. S/he will work with district governments to develop gender sensitive WASH plans that support increased access to drinking water supply through public-private partnerships. Experts will ensure development of detailed implementation plans, collection of appropriate baseline and monitoring data, as needed, clear process and impact indicators, and effective project monitoring and evaluation procedures to ensure accountability and make improvements in children’s lives. The expert will also guarantee timely and accurate donor reporting as well as seek to continuously improve programs and initiate new project implementation.
Candidate profile
  • Relevant advanced academic qualification in WASH or related field;
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in public health or related field and demonstrated experience in management of large, community-based projects or business/social enterprise marketing of products or services, and inter-disciplinary teams, preferably in Rwanda;
  • Up-to-date knowledge and experience in behaviour change communication related to WASH and nutrition;
  • A history of productive involvement with governmental health systems, processes and service delivery models in developing countries;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and background in community mobilization and engagement;
  • Direct experience working with, and leading, USAID-funded projects preferred;
  • Established WASH networks and strong relationship management skills;
  • Fluent oral and strong written English language communication required;
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, collaboration experience, creativity and willingness to innovate;
  • The successful candidate will be a self-motivated achiever with excellent intercultural leadership, teamwork, coaching, communication, networking and organizational skills.
