Intern/Project Assistant: Gender, Women and Democracy Program

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) encourages enthusiastic, self-starters with a strong interest in gender, women and democracy to submit a cover letter and resume for a paid internship with NDI's Gender, Women and Democracy (GWD) program.
The GWD program is responsible for the integration of gender differences into all NDI’s democratic governance programming with the objective of decreasing gender inequalities and permanently eradicating discrimination. NDI also believes the inclusion of women in the decision-making that affects their lives is a key part of achieving fully democratic governance, with transparency and accountability. Therefore, NDI’s programs support women to participate, compete, and lead in the political processes at the national and sub-national levels of government, and in civil society associations advocating for democratic change.
The full-time internship is based in NDI's Washington DC office and requires a 40-hour commitment per week. Interns/Project Assistants at NDI are given substantive responsibilities and are expected to be professional contributors to the wideranging efforts of this small team. They need to be disciplined self-starters, who can accept assignments and run with them, occasionally under pressure; they also need to know when to seek guidance before proceeding. Interns/Project Assistants are encouraged to attend workshops, lectures and other staff development events at NDI and across DC.
