Hays is representing the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) that is urgently looking for a Legal Counsel/Legal Affairs Project Manager to join their office in Brussels.
As a legal counsel, you will report directly to the Legal Affairs Director and you will join a department that is responsible for giving legal support and advice to the Director General Office, other Departments within the organization as well as the national Members.
The legal Affairs Department holds the secretariat of the joint Commercial Advisory Group and manages the process of partnerships and liaisons arrangements with those European organizations willing to collaborate with the Association.
The legal team also acts as the contact point for Conformity Assessment issues (notably regarding the management of a specific mark of conformity to European standards).
As a Legal Affairs Project Manager, you provide legal support on specific topics upon request by making research, reviewing and consulting the relevant sources. You liaise with national Members to provide legal assistance and intelligence on identified matters and you review and draft contracts, cooperation agreements and guidance documents.
Part of your tasks also consist in providing a proactive service to the Joint Commercial Advisory Group (including the coordination of at least two meetings per year) as well as coordinating conformity assessment supporting activities. You attend and contribute to relevant fora, seminars, conferences and business meetings. You support the Director on other administrative duties and you contribute to the elaboration of the departmental Business Plan.
To be considered for this Legal Counsel/Legal Affairs Project Manager role, you need to hold a Master’s degree in law with a focus on EU law. Ideally you have a first experience as a legal counsel on corporate affairs at EU or international level (academic knowledge can also be considered for this role). The right candidate can demonstrate excellent legal writing as well as strong interpersonal skills, effective planning and organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines. Flexibility and ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team are also really important.
Knowledge of Intellectual property rights will be considered a real asset. The same goes for knowledge of conformity assessment matters. Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential for the role, ideally in combination with another EU language.
The company offers an attractive salary package in a truly international work environment (more than 18 different nationalities).
