Deputy Director Avocats Sans Frontières (ASF)

Responsibilities

Working under the responsibility of the General Director (in his absence, under the responsibility of the Head of Finance), the Deputy Director will support the General Director with the further development and expansion of the organization, in accordance with the policies established by the Board of Directors.

More specifically, the Deputy Director will be responsible for the following:
• Supporting the coordinators-analysts and thematic experts in the definition of the new programs and proposal writing.
• Supporting the assessments as well as the strategic and programmatic analyses
• Propose readjustments in the strategy in order to have a larger impact and obtain better results.
• Coordinating the programmatic team at headquarters (coordinators-analysts, thematic experts) paying special attention to the cohesion and team spirit.
• Facilitating communication between the programmatic teams and the support teams (Administration, Finance and Communication).

The Deputy Director will assist the General Director in the definition of development strategies, new directions and their implementation and:
• Observation of the coherence of programs and interventions with the global vision of ASF
• If necessary, to represent Avocats Sans Frontières and present its positions and/or concerns to the main donors, national and international authorities, external actors and partners.
• Participate in the search for funding from institutional donors and private foundations and contribute to the enlargement of the community of supporters of Avocats Sans Frontières.

Candidate’s profile:

• At least 7 years of professional experience; at least 3 in a senior position
• Proven capacity to analyze complex environments
• Strong capacity for decision-making and prioritizing
• Management skill
• Excellent team and human resource management capacities.
• Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills (sense of diplomacy and negotiation) and communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure as part of a multicultural team and in complex, fluid and demanding situations
• Experience in fundraising
• Dynamic, enthusiastic, polyvalent and able to multitask
• Good command of English, French and Dutch
• Previous experience in the area of access to justice, Rule of Law and/or good governance desirable

Conditions

- One-year contract with a probation period of 6 months (with the growth of the organization, the position may become permanent after the first year’s assessment)
