This Vacancy Announcement (VA) is an updated version of VA 2010 09. Candidates who have applied for VA 2010 09 do not need to re apply; their candidatures will be considered for this new VA.

Duties:

Under the supervision of the Head of the Documentation and Library Division, the incumbent will:

Systems:

  • ensure the smooth running of the integrated library management system (MINISIS), introducing new functions according to the needs of the service;
  • ensure that cataloguing forms and data fields conform to international cataloguing standards (AACR2) and reflect the requirements of the Library;
  • liaise with external suppliers and the Court’s IT Division as regards the functioning of the operating system, software updates and the management of licences; customize application software as instructed by the vendor;
  • co-operate with the IT Division to run the Library’s systems smoothly and integrate them with other systems of the Court, following appropriate procedures;
  • participate in the development and updating of the Library’s intranet pages and the online catalogue (OPAC);
  • centralize and manage technical information concerning the Division’s databases and electronic services;
  • propose and implement new techniques in digital and online services;
  • produce system reports, statistics and recommendations;
  • respond to requests for technical support.

Catalogue:

  • create and correct bibliographic records, applying international cataloguing rules and bibliographic standards (AACR2);
  • update and re-index the various dictionaries of specialized terms;
  • propose and develop new procedures as new technology and online resources become available;
  • provide cataloguing and indexing support and training to other members of the team.

Other tasks:

  • participate in other activities of the Division: reference services and loans (including from external libraries), dealing with requests for information, searches, developing electronic resources and training users, scanning and distributing documents, developing Library databases and other electronic reference tools;
  • participate in the creation of bibliographies and chronological lists;
  • plan and/or implement specific projects at the request of the Head of Division;
  • stand in for colleagues as required;
  • carry out other administrative tasks where necessary.

Qualifications and skills:

Education:

  • Diploma in documentation or information technology, or equivalent training.

Experience:

  • at least three years’ experience of using integrated library management systems; familiarity with the MINISIS software would be an asset;
  • proficiency in use of the Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel), and database and internet software;
  • practical knowledge of different cataloguing standards and classification systems, e.g., AACR2, MARC21, UDC and LB.

Skills required:

  • ability to work as part of a team in a multicultural environment;
  • analytical approach to solving problems;
  • commitment to improving services through teamwork, professionalism and responding to users’ needs and requests.

Languages:

  • Proficiency in English and French; knowledge of other languages would be an asset.
