Samrec - Head Office in Centurion
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Geologist is responsible for ore reserve management at all Imerys operations in South Africa (Samrec, Rhino Minerals and Ecca Holdings). The position impacts directly on ore reserves and short- and long-term mine budgets, including capital expenditure projects.
Key tasks and responsibilities: · Plan, organise and oversee all drilling campaigns • Maintain Imerys protocol on life-of-mine reserves • Develop, implement and monitor medium- to long-term mine plans • Facilitate, with site management, compliance with mine plans • Design and supervise grade control programmes to ensure production targets are met • Plan and supervise exploration programmes • Conduct quarterly ore reconciliation vs operational mass balance/mining plan model • Assist with mineral right applications, including all associated administrative duties • Negotiate and consult with landowners • Regularly travel to operational sites in and/or outside South Africa.
Qualifications, experience, and skills: · BSc Honours or BTech Geology • Minimum of 10-15 years' geology experience in mining • Opencast mining experience will be advantageous • Geological modelling software experience - Surpac, Block Modelling and Pit Design modules · Code 08 driver's licence • Self starter • Good communicator.
