BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity which assists in transforming lives through Media communication around the world. We are creating platforms to provide access to information to enable some of the poorest people in the world to take part in community life, claiming their rights and helping to reduce poverty. Our aim is to inform, connect and empower people and audience is at the heart of what we do. Our Research and Learning Group (R&L) provides research and evaluation to support the development and impact assessment of media development and communication for development projects.
About the role
As part of a research team, you will proactively support research activities across Africa, Asia, Middle East and Europe. Taking direction from research managers, you will be coordinating research, collating and analysing large data sets in SPSS to deliver the results to the requirements of creative and production teams as well as external audiences. You will be designing and supporting others to design qualitative and quantitative research instruments and the role will also involve carrying out qualitative and quantitative data analysis to both inform and evaluate our programmes. This role is based in London you will support all aspects of our research to ensure that our work is built on insights from research and engagements with communities. The role will include heavy liaison with our wider Research and Learning group both in London and with our country teams around the world.
About you
The role requires you to bring strong qualitative and quantitative research and analysis skills, coupled with experience in social research methods. Therefore, you’ll have experience with data sets, including cleaning and manipulating data in SPSS and be familiar with qualitative research methods and software. Your ability to explain concepts clearly and communicate research findings will be equally important. You’ll be experienced at report writing and delivering presentations to a high standard with minimal supervision. You’ll have excellent IT skills, including Excel and PowerPoint, and be a natural coordinator who is highly organised. Experience of familiarity with international development issues, particularly in Media, health, governance or resilience, would be an advantage.
