Islamic Help Communications Officer

Islamic Help is a UK registered charity and international NGO established in 2003 to make a difference to the lives of those afflicted by poverty and suffering.

Islamic Help is looking for an exceptional Communications Officer to help raise the profile of the organisation. You will co-ordinate our internal and external communications, ensuring our website remains relevant and up to date, and developing our marketing materials. You will have strong interpersonal, communications, copywriting and creative skills, developed in a people-focused setting. You will have experience of liaising with internal and external partners and a track record of having an impact through your communications work.

Job Purpose
To develop and manage Islamic Help’s external and internal communications, working closely with the Islamic Help team in the charity’s Birmingham Head Office.

This includes the design and delivery of print and online material, updating and developing Islamic Help’s online presence (including social networking sites), and developing a strong media profile for the charity.
The post holder will be responsible for the development and production of communications material to support Islamic Help’s work, in close collaboration with other members of the team.

Key Responsibilities
This is an interesting and varied role with an international NGO that makes a difference to thousands of people afflicted by poverty and in need of emergency relief.

Main duties include but are not limited to:
  • Copywriting, design and delivery of external literature, in particular, Newsletters, reports and flyers
  • Fundraising literature
  • Media press releases
  • Regular review and updating of Islamic Help’s website and social networking sites
  • Development of media contacts and media liaison
  • Additional duties that may be assigned from time to time

Person specification
Skills and Experience
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience of producing communication products from inception to completion, or able to demonstrate strong transferable skills
  • Knowledge of online media, including appropriate skills for updating and revising website/online content
  • Previous experience of communications and fundraising
  • Excellent computer skills, including all Microsoft packages and publishing software
