The incumbent must:
- have successfully completed recognised university-level training in translation, or hold a degree in a relevant discipline from an institution of acknowledged standing, complemented by proven translation capabilities;
- have Proficiency (‘VI’) in French as his/her mother tongue, and Advanced (‘V’) knowledge of English (very good understanding and the ability to express himself/herself clearly when speaking and writing in that language);
- have demonstrated the ability to provide, for revision and within the deadlines set, stylistically, grammatically and syntactically good translations, including technical translations, that faithfully reflect the meaning or intention of the original;
- have good general knowledge and familiarity with the major topical issues;
- be able to work under pressure if necessary, striking the best possible balance between quality and speed;
- be prepared to work outside normal office hours when workload or urgent work so requires;
- have experience in using Microsoft Word.
DESIRABLE
The following would be considered an advantage:

- at least two years of relevant experience;
- knowledge of the main IT tools used in translation;
- knowledge of specialised fields related to the topics discussed at NATO;
- knowledge of the workings, activities and jargon of NATO;
- knowledge of other languages, particularly those of NATO Member and Partner countries.
