World Bank Group Research Manager

Your findings can influence the way the World Bank works.

Research Manager

The World Bank Group is one of the world’s largest sources of funding and knowledge for developing countries. We use our substantial financial resources and unrivalled experience to help poor nations reduce poverty, increase economic growth and improve quality of life, and we constantly transform the way we think and work to remain at the cutting edge.

At the heart of the Finance and Private Sector Development unit of our research department, you will focus on operationally relevant topics and widely disseminate your findings both within and beyond the Bank. At a strategic level, you will oversee the development and implementation of the research programme, whilst leading dialogue with key partners and driving the delivery of high quality projects. Much of your time will be spent mentoring and coaching colleagues and consultants, and you will be a powerful catalyst for fresh thinking and best practice. Equally importantly, you should be capable of controlling budgets, co-ordinating donor activity and engaging regional, bilateral and multinational agencies, so your interpersonal skills are every bit as important as your technical aptitude.

Alongside a Ph. D in Economics or Finance in an appropriate discipline, you will bring extensive experience in research management positions, gained within politically complex environments. Having operated in a number of geographical regions, you will be able to demonstrate an impressive record of publication, proven ability to translate requirements into research programmes, and a commitment to innovation that matches our own. Above all, you should be a true self-starter with the desire and determination to influence decision-making at the highest levels.
