JOB PURPOSE: To lead, coordinate and deliver digital projects and online outputs relating to the Global Digital Strategy, working closely with all teams and personnel within DCP.

DEPARTMENT PURPOSE: The Digital Communications Programme plays a leadership role in the development and implementation of the movement’s Global Digital Strategy. We work alongside Sections & Structures to provide a cohesive and coherent framework for delivery of One Amnesty via interactive channels, whilst responding to the organisation’s requirements from customer-facing digital platforms and tools.

AIIS PURPOSE: The International Secretariat, which operates from a number of sites around the world, gathers and communicates accurate and action-oriented human rights information globally. We campaign for meaningful human rights change; enable effective human rights activism and work to persuade governments and other actors to uphold universal human rights standards. We provide strategic leadership, support and advice to the Amnesty International movement globally, fostering Amnesty International’s contribution, presence and public accountability throughout the world.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reporting to: DCP Programme Director.
Posts that this job manages: Project Team Members and supervision of Volunteers, Interns, and Temporary Staff as appropriate.
Other key relationships: Coordinating the work of the Project Team working on digital products. Working with colleagues in DCP, Communications Cluster, other International Secretariat and movement-wide stakeholders of a project. Externally, the postholder will maintain key relationships with appointed agencies and contractors, industry specialists, NGOs, legal advisors and digital industry associations.

USEFUL INFORMATION: Full time position, which may require flexible working hours during intense periods of project-work. The job may require some international travel.
• Lead on digital project initiation, planning, implementation, change process, delivery and evaluation. Assess the strategic human rights impact of proposed digital projects, developing and refining objectives, consulting with stakeholders to define project requirements, and drawing-up detailed project briefs.
• Develop and implement digital projects, including, though not limited to, the commissioning of interactive services, microsites, widgets, e-communications, social networking tools, mobile services, audio-visual content and other rich media.
• Ensure approved objectives for digital projects are achieved. Create and present mid- and post-project evaluation reports to measure pre-determined objectives and key performance indicators against outcomes, making recommendations to stakeholders in order to deliver improvements.
• Create effective working relationships and communications with digital project stakeholders (Programmes, International Secretariat and the movement, external agencies and suppliers) throughout the project, including presenting at regular meetings, and writing updates and reports.
• To act as a single point of contact for the movement in regard to managed digital products, ensuring regular and efficient two-way communication and distribution channels are maintained.
• Coordinate, supervise and delegate the work of the Project Team, working on digital products, maintaining motivation to deliver.
• Monitor and record expenditure against budgets for digital projects, advise stakeholders on budget requirements and changes, facilitate prompt process of payments and invoices.
• Contribute to developing and implementing effective and sustainable processes to coordinate, monitor, and report on production of digital project deliverables.
• Proactively communicate and synchronise digital project-related activities with the International Secretariat and wider movement, where applicable, sharing relevant project materials and facilitating support for sections/structures where necessary.
• Seek opportunities to initiate and develop external relationships, where applicable, to increase the human rights impact of digital projects.
• Projects have a high communications and campaigning impact.
• Delivery against project objectives as agreed and approved by the project stakeholders.
• Stakeholders’ involvement is facilitated in a professional manner.
• Project Team members are supported and receive clear directions.
• Project experience and learning is shared effectively (improving organisational memory).
• Maintain general awareness of digital projects across the Communications Cluster.


  1. Experience of managing multi-stakeholder projects for digital communications from initiation to delivery in a large international campaigning organisation.

  2. Experience of working on multi-lingual products in a multi-cultural environment.

  3. Experience of leading professional relationships with movement clients and a wide range of external agencies.

  4. Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and digital professionals, including content, technical, web development and design personnel.

  5. Ability to write clear and concise reports, make presentations, use a confident telephone manner and chair meeting with international stakeholders.

  6. Ability to delegate and supervise work of colleagues, contributing to the overall development and performance of the team.

  7. Ability to solve problems creatively in a strategic and operational context.

  8. Ability to negotiate and facilitate agreement.

  9. Working knowledge of content management and audiovisual web applications.

  10. Fluent English is essential, additional languages are an advantage.


Salary: Full time salary of £38,976 per annum (pro rata for part time staff)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Central London
Contract duration: Fixed term maternity cover contract of up to one year in duration
Holidays: Full time staff receive 27 days per annum plus two Amnesty International grace day and
statuatory and national public holidays.
Office hours: 09.30 - 17.30 or 10.00 - 18.00 by arrangement
Life insurance: Amnesty International provide a Death in Service benefit of 4 x gross salary.
Pension: After six consecutive months of service staff are automatically enrolled in the Amnesty
International Superannuation Scheme. This is a defined contribution to which Amnesty International contributes 7.5% of gross salary and will match individual employee contributions up to an additional
3%.
Probation: A six month probation period will be included in the contract for this position.
Relocation: A generous relocation assistance package will be available for staff members (and their
dependents) recruited from over 80km/50 miles from the International Secretariat office in which the
post is based.
