SALARY: Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR):

  • USD 31,963 p.a, including Overseas Comparability Pay (based on a full-time work schedule)
  • USD 27,431 p.a., without Overseas Comparability Pay (based on a full-time work schedule)

(starting salary and final grade will be determined by Washington)

Ordinarily Resident (OR): RMB 87,546 p.a. (based on a full-time work schedule)

(starting salary includes allowances and bonus)

The U.S. Embassy in Beijing is seeking an individual for the position of WAE Management Support Clerk in the Human Resources (HR) Office.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

This position is will be required on an as-needed basis for any duties related to the management support function. Incumbent performs a full range of duties depending on the needs of the request. The incumbent should expect to perform duties such as filing, escorting, special projects, packing of office equipment and supplies, clerical/typing, data-entry, and updating spreadsheets and/or databases. Other duties as assigned will be required. The person reports directly to the Assistant Human Resources Officer who will then assign the WAE to the requesting office. Further guidance and direction will be provided to the WAE based on the duties requested.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item. Applicants who fail to do so, or who do not meet the position's required qualifications, will not be considered for this position.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience:

  • One year of general office work experience is required.

Language:

  • Level IV (Fluent) speaking/reading/writing in English is required.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of PCs, PC-based software (MS-Office Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and e-mail is required.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation and required formats sufficient to recognize and correct such errors in correspondence, reports and telegrams is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to use judgment to analyze information and take appropriate actions (phone calls, prioritizing work, etc.) is required.

SELECTION PROCESS

When equally qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (US EFMs) and U.S. Veterans who are legally residing in country will be given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

  • All completed applications received by the closing date will be reviewed by HR to determine which applicants meet the advertised position's required qualifications. When appropriate, the HR Office will administer necessary skill testing, such as typing, to confirm an applicant's qualifications.
  • Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  • Current LES employees are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their appointment.
  • Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
  • Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
  • Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
  • Ordinarily Resident applicants or applicants without a U.S. social security number will be paid according to the Local Compensation Plan in local currency (RMB). There are no exceptions to this regulation.
  • Applicants for sensitive positions must be U.S. citizens and able to obtain and hold a Top Secret security clearance.
