Cider Production Shift Manager

What will I do as a Cider Production Shift Manager?

Working a 12 hour continental shift pattern you will take responsibility for the day to day safe and efficient operation of the Cider Production department. Managing a team of up to 9 team members your responsibilities will encompass all aspects of material intake, fermentation, filtration, blending and despatch.

This role is based at Universal Beverages Limited, a subsidiary of HEINEKEN in the UK. Universal Beverages Limited has been established for over two years and has brought together professionals from the drinks industry, utilizing new and existing facilities in Ledbury, Herefordshire. UBL is the first large scale beverage production facility in the UK, combining modern fruit milling equipment with a flexible production, packaging and distribution service.

As a Cider Production Shift Manager what skills and qualifications will I need?

  • Ideally you will be educated to Degree level in either a brewing, engineering or food – or be working towards it attainment.
  • You will also need a relevant IBD Diploma in Brewing or a food qualification – or be working towards it attainment.
  • With several years experience in a similar role in a production manufacturing environment you will need to have a sound working knowledge of liquid processing.
  • Experience of managing improvement projects and effectively applying continuous improvement techniques such as Total Productive Management (TPM) and 5S.

As a Cider Production Shift Manager what kind of responsibilities will I have?

Safety

  • Take personal responsibility for leading the Health &Safety agenda in Cider Production
  • Uphold the company’s safety standards and health and safety law
  • Maintaining safety as the number one priority by communicating and interaction with the production teams
  • Co-ordinate safety improvement projects
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near miss’s promptly to prevent re-occurrence

Quality

  • Uphold the company’s quality standards at all times
  • Motivate your team to maintain the highest achievable standards of organisation, sanitation and housekeeping
  • Promote a quality culture in Cider Production by developing a full understanding of micro and analytical attributes

Performance

  • Have a sound working knowledge of the departments and teams KPI’s
  • Motivates their team to meet and exceed KPI targets
  • Understands the process capability of their production process and maximises throughput

People

  • Continually assesses and develop your team’s capability by assessing competency and training.
  • Address underperformance and acknowledges and rewards contribution
  • Maintains optimum skill levels to operate the production process

Improvement

  • Use a structured continuous improvement approaches to improving KPI performance
  • Implement improvement activity using 5S techniques & HEINEKEN TPM methodology
  • Participates in and leads project activity

Asset Care

  • Work with your team to apply structured root cause analysis to production issues
  • Co-ordinate asset care activity to ensure planned down time is minimised and well used.
  • Work with the site engineering team to develop first line maintenance skills within the teams
