Inter Mediate

Inter Mediate is a new, London-based charity set up to promote dialogue between governments and insurgent groups with a view to reducing violent conflict and helping engender lasting peace agreements. Inter Mediate was set up by a group of the world's foremost negotiators and mediators and is focused on tackling some of the most complex and entrenched conflicts across the globe.

1. Position Summary

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with an organisation that is at the front-edge of practical conflict resolution work. Reporting to the COO, the Projects Manager will assist the Inter Mediate’s senior management by developing, managing, reporting on, and evaluating Inter Mediate’s project portfolio. In addition, the project manager will be responsible for developing strong and enduring relationships with wide range of donors (government and international organisations, foundations and private sector).

The right person will have at least seven years’ experience managing projects, preferably for a non-profit. In addition to managing projects and budgets, you will need to demonstrate competence with a wide range of donor reporting requirements and a strong track record of effectively building relationships with donors to secure on-going support. You will be an excellent communicator, good at building and strengthening relationships. You will know where to look for project funding and also how to translate our work into successful project proposals and funding applications.

We are looking for a confident, focussed, self-starter with experience of developing and managing international projects and with experience of reporting back to a range of donor institutions. You will have a commitment to conflict resolution and a proven interest in issues related to promoting dialogue, negotiation and/or mediation. You will be comfortable working within a small team in a new organisation and be committed to achieving results.

2. Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the COO, the Projects Coordinator will be responsible for:

- Managing and overseeing the implementation of Inter Mediate’s project portfolio;
- Managing project finances and grants’ contracts;
- Preparing fully costed project proposals in conjunction with our senior advisors and consultant experts;
- Drafting all project reports (narrative and financial) in line with donor requirements;
- Compiling project progress reports for senior management/trustees’ meetings; and
- Managing and strengthening relationships with partners, donors and funders with a view to securing on-going funding.

3. Specific Responsibilities

The Projects Manager will need to:

- Lead on research necessary for these projects;
- Act as a focal point for the team of IM experts, consultants and project stakeholders involved in implementing these projects;
- Manage one Project Associate, who will support both projects and I M general operations;
- Oversee project budgets and ensure that grants are implemented in line with agreements, liaise with donors and produce financial and donor reports;
- Oversee the Project Associate’s work on external communications;
- Assist COO develop monitoring and evaluation tools for IM’s activities;
- Identify potential new opportunities for project funding especially from institutional donors (e.g. DFID etc.);
- Represent IM in external forums where appropriate;
- In consultation with the COO, provide relevant project information to IM’s public representation when required; and
- Assist with other IM activities as needed.

4. Person Specification

Required

- A strong track record in planning, organising, implementing and monitoring projects in the non-profit sector
- A successful track record of preparing project proposals to secure funding.
- Extensive experience of budget management and spread sheet reporting
- Strong research, drafting and editorial skills and experience of drafting interim, final and donor project reports.
- A proven ability to communicate effectively with, and build and maintain relationships/partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including governments, national and EU institutions, policy makers, NGOs and professionals from various fields
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills
- Educated to degree level or equivalent with eight or more years’ relevant experience
- Ability to work in a small team, including with consultants in remote locations
- Computer literacy with MS Office applications including Excel
- Good time management skills
- Excellent organisation and administration skills
- Ability to generate and prioritise own work load and meet deadlines
- Tenacious and professional in the pursuit of funding
- Able to work to tight deadlines

Highly Desirable
- A Master’s Degree in International Affairs/Political Science/Development or related field
- Experience working in conflict resolution or related field
- Working knowledge of additional languages
- Working knowledge of MS SharePoint
Database management experience

Working at Inter Mediate

The hours we work are:

A normal working week consists of 37.5 hours. We have a flexible working practice. Our offices are open between 8am and 6.30pm with core hours from 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Flexible working hours and some travel maybe required. All applicants must have EU status or the right of employment within the UK.

Our holiday entitlement is:

25 days per year plus Public Holidays for full time staff and pro rata for part time staff.

The probation period for all appointments is:

Subject to satisfactory completion of the first six months of employment.
