Location - Cardiff

Details
RenewableUK is the leading renewable energy trade organisation in the UK. Established in 1978 we now represent over 700 corporate members, mainly in the wind and marine energy industries. In 2006 we established RenewableUK Cymru to help promote this important sector contributing new jobs and more than £158 million each year to the Welsh economy.

We are primarily a lobbying organisation, promoting the deployment of wind, wave and tidal power to government, industry, the media and the public. We also act as a central point of information for our membership and present a full annual programme of conferences, exhibitions and other networking opportunities. We commission research to provide market based evidence to support our policy positioning and to supplement our responses to government consultations on behalf of our members, and generally act as the principal forum for the UK wind, wave and tidal sectors.

The role
As our first dedicated Communications Manager in Wales, you will have the scope and opportunity to make the role your own. Starting with an assessment of media coverage to date and the compilation of the key media and stakeholder contacts, you will devise the communications strategy to promote the industry’s key messages both to the media, industry partners, Assembly Members and key members of the Welsh Government. You will also be expected to support the co-ordination of grass-root regional campaigns which would involve public interface and dealing with social media.

This is a busy job with no two days the same. In addition to writing press releases, responding to media enquiries, and helping to manage relations with politicians and civil servants, you will also support the wider team to keep the membership informed. As part of a team of 6, you will be expected to “muck in” to help support with the Cymru strategy group meetings and the delivery of a programme of member networking events and conferences.

This role provides an ideal next step for a communications professional seeking a role with some autonomy, although support will be there for you from your line manager, the Head of Communications and Policy and also our communications team in London. You will have developed innovative media and other campaigns during your career and ideally have some public affairs experience. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills ideally with fluency in Welsh. Although knowledge of the renewable sector is desirable; a passion for the supporting this rapidly growing industry is vital.
