CIS SAFETY MANAGER NYALA/KHARTOUM, SUDAN

CARE is seeking an experienced Safety Advisor to advise CARE International Switzerland (CIS) on how to safely work within their programme environments in Sudan and reduce risks they may face. This will be achieved by, but not limited to the provision of professional safety approaches, the development of capacity in respect of safety awareness, preparedness and management, which will strive to support programme implementation. The Safety Advisor will develop, implement and where necessary update and maintain safety advisories and operating procedures which are in line with the CARE International safety protocols. S/he will work closely Heads of Field Office and the Country Office Operations Manager -- who have overall responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of staff within their respective locations – on the assessment and management of risks associated with our operations in Sudan. S/he will be responsible for training and supporting staff to ensure that any risks are minimized. S/he will demonstrate a high level of socio-cultural, political and economic understanding of the many contexts where CARE works. S/he will also develop a solid working knowledge of CIS’s programmes in order to provide guidance and direction for safety to support CIS’s vision and mission. S/he will be required to travel to CIS’s operational areas, including volatile locations to assist in addressing all safety concerns, develop appropriate responses, and provide technical assistance. S/he will report to the Country Director. The position will be primarily focused on the needs of CIS’s programme in Darfur but as appropriate will support teams in other locations in Sudan. In addition, s/he will advise the Country Director on appropriate safety policies for the country office as a whole.

Required:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Knowledge and experience of managing staff safety in complex and insecure settings.
  • Knowledge of contract management and knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management implementing best practices.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace
  • Excels at operating in an fast pace, community environment
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in excel, word and outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Desired:

  • Multiple language skills desirable (Arabic)
