The HEA is a national body for enhancing learning and teaching in higher education in the UK. We work with institutions across the higher education system to help bring about change in learning and teaching to improve the outcomes for students. We do this by recognising and rewarding excellent teaching, bringing together people and resources and share best practice and by helping influence, shape and implement policy.

The HEA supports staff in higher education throughout their career from those who are new to teaching through to senior management. We offer services in 28 disciplines throughout the UK and have offices in England, Wales and Scotland. Through the partnership management team we work directly with institutions to understand individual circumstances and priorities and bring together resources to meet them.

This post will work closely with the Head of Social Sciences and Academic Leads to provide the key academic interface between the HEA and the discipline-based lecturers, learning and teaching practitioners and management and support staff working in higher education.

The post-holder will exercise academic leadership in close collaboration with individuals and teams within higher education and will lead and manage HEA service delivery in the discipline area, forging, developing and supporting specific and defined relationships and activities with academic departments and faculties, and with other relevant organisations.

The Discipline Lead will design, develop and lead a range of HEA services (including workshops, seminars and conferences) across the higher education sector to promote excellence in learning and teaching within the discipline and to share and disseminate effective practice in learning and teaching in higher education in collaboration with relevant professional, subject, and sector bodies where appropriate. Working with other HEA staff, they will ensure a coordinated set of activities to academic staff to support learning and teaching improvements in higher education.

To succeed in the role, you will have substantial and significant teaching and/or academic staff development experience in higher education within the discipline of the role. Experience of developing and delivering creative and innovative learning and teaching is essential along with experience of undertaking subject-based or pedagogic research in an HEI. You will be an experienced networker and enjoy excellent communication and presentation skills coupled with an innovative focus.
