AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 21 operations in 10 countries on four continents. AGA over 63,000 people globally. In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is the manager of the Tropicana Joint Venture with a 70% interest. Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%. The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.

Tropicana Gold Mine represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.91 million ounces over a 10 year mine life. With construction having commenced in June, first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.

An opportunity now presents for a talented Drill and Blast Engineer to join our expanding team and make their mark on the future of this significant new development.

Accountable to the Manager - Mining this site-based role is offered on an 8:6 FIFO roster and is responsible for co-ordinating all technical aspects of drill & blast to meet production targets in a sustainable and cost effective manner.

Key accountabilities of this role include:

• Development of drill and blast designs in line with the Blast Masters;
• Liaising with the drill and blast production team to ensure alignment with the schedule and delivery of planned objectives;
• Performance tracking of the drill and blast function and provision of concise and timely recommendations to manage variances if required;
• Actively seeking out opportunities for continuous improvement;
• Compliance with company, legislative and statutory regulations in regards to safety and environmental stewardship.

To be successful in this role you will require:

• Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork;
• Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering;
• Open pit mining experience ideally including hands-on and engineering work;
• A good understanding of software applications including MS Suite and mining specific software is desirable but not essential;
• A results oriented can-do approach to getting things done and a desire to learn and take on new responsibilities.
