AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 21 operations in 10 countries on four continents. AGA employs over 63,000 people globally. In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is the manager of the Tropicana Joint Venture with a 70% interest. Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%. The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.

Tropicana Gold Mine represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.91 million ounces over a 10 year mine life. With construction having commenced in 2011, first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.

Accountable to the Processing Manager, the Metallurgy Superintendent is a key site based position. The role will be accountable for the management of metallurgical performance and engineering, the aspects of the onsite laboratory, process instrumentation and the gold room.

Some of the key accountabilities include:

  • Development and review of standard operating procedures;
  • Development, implementation and continuous improvement of key process controls
  • Coordinate grade control geometallurgy program to optimize mine 3 month rolling schedule
  • Relief as Processing Manager as required by the operation's FIFO roster;
  • Maintain online instrumentation such as cyanide analyser, pH meters, wieghtometers and particle image analysers
  • Management and development of a team of Metallurgists, Laboratory and Gold Room Technicians

Successful applicants will possess;

  • Recognised tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Process or Chemical Engineering;
  • A minimum of 5 years professional experience within the mining industry;
  • Minimum 3 years experience in Gold Processing plants;
  • A working knowledge of Process Control systems and instrumentation;
  • WA C Class Drivers license is essential for this role.
  • Competent in MS Office
  • Experience in designing systems, processes and procedures
  • Able to fulfill the requirements of the Radiation and Ventilation Officer
